Well I was one of the several who did'nt make it out back; every time I lost speed on a big lump of white water and the next lump of white took my board away. This would not be so bad but my board always flipped upside down and the waves were so close together that it was vey difficult to get up again. With the strong current this meant a long walk of shame back up wind each time.

However I did try some nice new kit. First off was a 75L Beast which was a struggle to get upwind with my 4.7 sail, but much better with a well downhauled 5.2 Rock. Then a 77L Syncro Fish. Very short and very easy to sink the nose when trying to get going, but easy to get planing once you kept your weight back a bit. This flew along with a 4.7 Instinct. Boards Mag says excellent for onshore riding - I just need to get out through the white water first. It would have been good to try the Synchro with the 5.2, but the kit was changing hands quite rapidly and I was getting knackered equally quickly.

It was a bit difficult to know what was demo kit; basically if you left something new on the beach it would be grabbed and taken out. An interesting day; it would be good to try Borth again with the wind more cross shore.
